The Princess cut Diamond is the second most popular diamond. These diamonds are basically square shaped stones. This shape was first developed in 1960. A square cut diamond that has refractive properties almost the same as the Round Brilliant shape. The princess cut diamonds seems to be larger than the round cut diamonds because of a larger table dimensions. Typically these are in the shape of a perfect square but can also be found in a slightly rectangular shape.
The princess cut diamond has impressive fire and brilliance, maximising sparkle. When purchasing a princess diamond, pay special attention to the length to width ratio, especially if your desire a diamond that is a perfect square. Its clean lines and angles make it a modern, elegant option.
Princess cuts can be either square or rectangular. The ideal ratio, from length to width, of a square princess cut is 1.00 to 1.04. The ideal ratio of a rectangular princess cut is 1.07 to 1.15. Below are the proportion ranges for princess cut diamonds and their respective cut grades. A rule to follow when choosing a princess cut diamond is to avoid those with a table percentage that is greater than the depth percentage.
