Another hybrid of the round cut and the marquise cut this shape was developed in the 1900. It has a brilliant sparkle. Oval diamonds have the brilliance of the round, but they grab more attention thanks to their unique shape. The elongated shape is also known to flatter the wearer by making the finger appear longer and slimmer.The Oval cut is intended to represent the longevity of your relationship. It was cut for symbolic meaning, but requires certain considerations when selecting it.
Oval diamonds can possess a bow-tie effect which occurs when the light doesn’t bounce into the middle of the diamond because of the way the diamond is cut. While most agree that this is a part of an oval diamond’s beauty, a severe effect is undesirable.
The optimal oval ratio of length to width is 1.32 to 1.45. Shorter oval cut diamonds may be deep or look too round. Some people also prefer very long ovals (upwards of 1.50 in ratio).
